The Sunday Service for February 14th is titled "The Transfiguration of Our Lord". Our services are posted on our website on Sunday afternoons, however if you would like to watch live, please join us on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ChristTheKingLCMS/.
We would like to invite you to join us for Midweek Lenten worship services, every Wednesday at 7pm during Lent. Walk with us through the Gospel of John using the “Light of Life” devotional book, if you wish.
The first Lenten Service will be this Wednesday, February 17th as we celebrate Ash Wednesday. We will have our traditional Ash Wednesday service with Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes. The Imposition of Ashes is, first of all, voluntary. It is not a sacrament. Rather, it is simply a pious practice to remind ourselves that we are mortal and that we are saved by Christ. We are reminded of our mortality and sinfulness when the ashes are placed on our foreheads and the pastor says, “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.” We are reminded of our forgiveness and salvation in Christ because the ashes are placed in the shape of a cross. Mortality and Eternal Life. Both are pictured in this reminder by this practice. As ever, participation in this practice is voluntary. Either way, the Lord’s Word and the Lord’s Supper will be present this Wednesday as we begin the Season of Lent. If you are uncomfortable with the close contact involved you are certainly not "expected" to participate and no one will be judged on their decision.
Joel 2:13 always serves as a great theme of Lent: “Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.” Another excellent them verse would be Hebrews 12:2: “[O come, let us fix our eyes on] Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

This week's Advent Service "The Fourth Sunday of Advent" video is included below. There is also a note from our Pastor, Kevin Yoakum if you would like to read it at your leisure. As always, the order of service for today's service is included in the box below the video.
From Pastor Yoakum:
Every year, I hope that I can find a certain Christmas song that helps my mind and heart “re-enter” the Christmas season once again. It could be a traditional Christmas carol, or a newer song by a contemporary artist. Usually, it is my hope that this will make me see the meaning of Christmas in a new way, or bring me in to full appreciation of the birth of Jesus Christ and it’s meaning. The first year that I noticed this was with the hymn “What Child Is This?”. What a beautiful hymn! If I may paraphrase: “What child is this on Mary’s lap? It’s Christ the King! Praise Him!” Verse Two connects manger to the cross! “… for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, the cross be borne for me, for you!”
Another year, it was “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day”, originally a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It tells the story of a man who had lost all hope. He hears the local church bells ring out the message “of peace on earth, good will to men.” This following part is the part that made it my song for that year. It speaks of human despair and hope in Christ. In despair, the man says, “There is no peace on earth … for hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men.” But the ringing church bells would not stop their song! “Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: ‘God is not dead, nor doth he sleep; the wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men!”
I am happy to share what this year’s song has been for me. It is called “Today is the Saviour’s Day” by an Irish band called Rend Collective (https://youtu.be/5787vapqkXY). In classic Irish pub band unrestrained joy, they proclaim the joy that all Christians hope to have because of the birth of Jesus. “… angels are singing, we are not alone, Today is the saviour’s day! Go, tell it on the mountain, Hope is alive, Go, shout it in the valley, Love has arrived…” They make it even more relevant to our daily living: “If you feel like a stranger there’s room at the inn, Let no one be turned away. Let the bygones be bygone and healing begin, Today is the saviour’s day!” Christ is born and we can have mercy on our fellow man! Christ died and rose again, and we can live in his forgiveness. Let bygones be bygone and healing begin!
Perhaps your Christmas day doesn’t sound like a joyous Irish pub song. But this song, more than some others, have reminded me that the life of Jesus Christ should bring Christians together “across every divide.” Maybe your Christmas feels like Longfellow’s poem, where the old man felt the pain of Civil War and lost sons. Listen and hear those church bells, the church’s message: God is not dead … peace on earth because of the birth of Jesus Christ. What child is this? He is Christ the King, who bore the cross for me, for you. Today is the Saviour’s day! I pray that all of you and your families may be blessed in the coming weeks with the peace and joy of knowing the Gospel truth. I pray that for you, every day is the Saviour’s day. Merry Christmas!

Please join us for the second Advent Service - Isaiah 40 - we invite you to join us for the Word of God and prayer.
The order of service is included in the box below the video if you would like to follow along at home.
Advent is the season of preparation of the coming of the Lord. With great and high rejoicing, we celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ in His nativity, His birth. Jesus came as the promised Messiah. We celebrate His birth every year, for all 12 Days of Christmas, if that is our practice. We take the time of Advent to remember that His coming was because we needed an eternal salvation. Only the Son of God could be just the Savior that could stand in our place to receive the punishment, and be strong enough to overcome sin, death, and the devil. Martin Luther wrote, “No other God have I but thee, born in a manger, died on a tree.”
However, Advent also points us to His Second Coming, His second Advent, on the Last Day. Remember your Savior Jesus Christ and remember all that He won for you at His first coming for your salvation. With faith and trust in the work of Jesus, you are well prepared for His Second Advent. What if Jesus comes before Christmas? Would that be so awful? In our earthly lives, we might say Yes! We are so close now, so close to Christmas. We want that celebration of the birth of Jesus. If we can get through all of the pre-Christmas stuff, we know that day will be a joy to celebrate. To enjoy the blessings of this life on Christmas day and ponder its significance.
What if Jesus comes before Christmas? By faith, we yearn for Jesus to come every day. Maybe the trials of life help us to pray, “Come, Lord Jesus.” We yearn for the fulfillment of all that is good. We pray for the end of all that is sin and sorrow and pain. We long to see the whole host of heaven, and those who have gone before us.
Advent reminds us that there might not be another Christmas? That’s right. Come, Lord Jesus. You came once, and we joyfully give thanks for your saving work for us. Come, Lord Jesus, in your Second Advent, whenever that day may be.

IT’S A JOYOUS SUNDAY! We are privileged to receive two new members AND have two baptisms! Now, yes, ordinarily this wouldn’t be scheduled all together, but in this Covid-season still affecting almost EVERY decision we make, this is what we were led to this week. Honestly, I think it’s great! We can celebrate long-timer Christians, new Christians, new Lutherans, many generations … all of it! We will rejoice in Christ with every generation that the Lord actually loves His people, young and old! - Pastor Yoakum
Congratulations on your Baptisim: Hope and Andrew and welcome new members: Mike and Isabel!!

Today we celebrate All Saints Day, otherwise know as All Hallows' Day. Its intent is to celebrate all the saints, including those who do not, or are no longer, celebrated individually, either because the number of saints has become so great or because they were celebrated in groups, after suffering martyrdom collectively.

This Sunday we recognize Reformation which falls on October 31. On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the All Saint's Church in Wittenberg, Electorate of Saxony. This event seems to be the event that started the Lutheran Reformation.
